    TAKAHATA WINERY

    • Great-tasting sake and wine crafted with pristine water resulting from abundant nature

Japanese sake from Yamagata is earning high marks from both within and without Japan. There are 51 unique sake breweries that include those with the latest equipment and those that make sake the traditional way by hand. They engage in friendly competition to produce a variety of local and superior sake that make the most of the climate and culture distinctive to their region. Naturally, water is crucial to making delicious sake. Yamagata is a treasure house of delicious water, and a rich, distinctive variety of sake is brewed based on differences in water quality between mountains such as Chokai, Asahi, and Gassan.

    • 51 breweries and 21 wineries weave a tapestry of diverse, excellent sake and wine

There are 51 breweries and 21 wineries in Yamagata that produce a variety of distinctive sake and wine. You can stop by breweries and wineries offering tours and taste-testing as you visit sightseeing spots and have fun searching for the drink of your choice. A lot of fruit is also grown in Yamagata, and the wines created from grapes grown on the hilly countryside bathed in sunlight are something special. The Bishuken Fair features products from many of the 51 breweries and 21 wineries, and festivals celebrating new brews of sake take place in various places throughout the prefecture.
